ALBA E TARSILA

Meu maior prazer é ver a cara de felicidade de quem ganha uma das minhas bonequinhas. Fico muito feliz em saber que a satisfação que sinto ao criar uma peça em papel maché e depois presenteá-la, traz ainda maior satisfação pra pessoa que a recebe. A bonequinha que fiz da Tarsila do Amaral, foi presente pra minha irmã Alba, que como eu, curte muito arte e pintura. Olha só a foto das duas!


My greatest pleasure is to see the face of happiness of those who receive one of my dolls. I am very happy to know that the satisfaction I feel when I create a piece of paper maché and then give it away, brings greater satisfaction to the person who receives it. The doll I made of Tarsila do Amaral, was a gift for my sister Alba, who loves art and painting just like me. Look at the photo of her both!

Fiz essa princesinha romântica como presente pra uma prima super querida, a Cassinha. Ela é uma pessoa super alegre, divertida e que adora uma festa! Não sei onde ela consegue arranjar tanto pique!!! Por isso, a bonequinha reflete sua personalidade: está sempre pronta pro baile!


I made this romantic little princess as a gift for my dear cousin Cassinha. She is a happy and playful person and she loves to party! Her doll reflects her personality: always ready for the ball!

TARSILA

Tarsila do Amaral foi uma pintora e desenhista brasileira e uma das figuras centrais da pintura brasileira e da primeira fase do movimento movimento modernista brasileiro ao lado de Anita Malfatti.
Seu quadro Abaporu, de 1928, inaugurou o "Movimento Antropofágico" nas artes plásticas no Brasil.

Admiro muito a obra da Tarsila. Através de sua arte ela retratou a cultura indígena e elementos de nosso folclore, além de expor temas sociais da época em que viveu. Fiz essa bonequinha inspirada em seu quadro "Le Manteau Rouge", ou "Auto Retrato".

Le Manteau Rouge

Tarsila do Amaral is considered to be one of the leading Latin American modernist artists, described as "the Brazilian painter who best achieved Brazilian aspirations for nationalistic expression in a modern style". She was a member of the Grupo dos Cinco (Group of Five), which included Anita Malfatti, Menotti Del Picchia, Mário de Andrade, and Oswald de Andrade.
Besides the 230 paintings, hundreds of drawings, illustrations, prints, murals, and five sculptures, Tarsila's legacy is her effect on the direction of Latin American art. Tarsila moved modernism forward in Latin America, and developed a style unique to Brazil. Following her example, other Latin American artists were influenced to begin utilizing indigenous Brazilian subject matter, and developing their own style.
I made this Tarsila Doll inspired on her self portrait painting "Le Manteau Rouge".

Deixei as bonequinhas um pouco de lado e resolvi fazer uma dupla canina. Cuíca e Cavaquinho, mãe e filhote com muitas florzinhas coloridas pra alegrar o seu dia e enternecer seu coração! 

I left the dolls a little aside and decided to make a canine couple. Cuíca and Cavaquinho, mother and cub with many colorful little flowers to brighten your day and melt your heart!

FRIDA

Minha amiga Schandra, que faz lindíssimos mosaicos, encomendou-me uma bonequinha da Frida Kahlo. Já havia visto na net algumas versões muito bacanas. Gostei muito da Frida da Valentina Ferrari (Cartarughe) em papel maché, e as da Du Buh Du Designs, em cerâmica plástica. Bem, cada artista já deve ter feito sua versão da Frida. Afinal, uma figura tão polêmica e talentosa como ela, merece ser sempre lembrada e retratada!

My friend Schandra, who makes beautiful mosaics, commissioned me a doll of Frida Kahlo. I have seen on the internet some very cool versions of Frida. I really liked Valentina Ferrari´s (Cartarughe) paper maché Frida doll, and Du Buh Du Designs´ version in polymer clay. Well, every artist should have already done their version of Frida. After all, a figure so controversial and talented as she was, deserves to be always remembered!

Another character that was born in carnival time. Is she a good merrymaker?

SEREIA - MERMAID

O carnaval deste ano aqui em Curitiba foi pra lá de chuvoso. Tristeza para muitos foliões que gostam de curtir na rua. Além da chuva, fazia aquele friozinho típico da nossa cidade. Fazer o que? Curitiba é assim!
Entretanto, pude aproveitar bem esses dias de descanso e marasmo. Aliás, marasmo foi o que menos pintou no meu atelier. Minha imaginação voou solta e novas personagens surgiram neste tempo. E outras ainda estão por vir! Logo, logo vocês as conhecerão. Por hora, apresento-lhes minha Sereia. Feita com jornal, massa de papel maché, air dry clay e pintada com tinta acrílica. Nos detalhes, um pouquinho de renda bordada. Nada mal, hein?!


Carnival this year was very rainy here in Curitiba. Sad for many partygoers who like to enjoy the party on the streets. Besides the rain, that´s typical of our city, it was also cold. Do what? That´s Curitiba!
However, I could make good use of those days of marasmus. My imagination flew loose and new characters emerged at this time. And there are others yet to come! Soon you will know them. For now, I give you my Mermaid. Made with newspaper, paper maché mass, air dry clay and painted with acrylic paint. And also a little embroidered lace. Not bad, huh?!

BODE BROWN

Minha família sempre faz um amigo secreto no Natal. Neste ano, meu "secret friend" foi meu cunhado, Samuel Cavalcanti. Pra quem não sabe, ele é o proprietário da Cervejaria Escola Bodebrown aqui em Curitiba. Suas cervejas são famosíssimas e já receberam inúmeros prêmios nacionais e internacionais. Como o símbolo da Bodebrown é um bode, tive a idéia de fazer um simpático bodinho marrom, em papel maché, para presenteá-lo. Ele adorou o presente, como vocês podem conferir na foto abaixo!

My family always makes a secret friend for Christmas. This year, my secret friend was my brother-in-law, Samuel Cavalcanti. For those who don´t know, he is the owner of  Bodebrown Brewery School  here in Curitiba. His beers are very famous and he has received numerous national and international awards. As the symbol of Bodebrown is a goat, I had the idea of ​​making a nice brown paper maché goat  to offer him as a gift. And he love it, as you can check out on the photo below!
